Business Fields

BaumInvest´s two Business fields

We operate in two business fields: sustainable forestry and carbon offsetting, both based on the reforestation of degraded pastureland. For this purpose, we predominantly plant native tree species to create a diverse and near-natural mixed forest.

We place great importance on our areas bordering nature reserves to connect biodiversity corridors and promote natural regeneration.

Carbon offsetting

Reforestation is an essential and natural way to remove climate-damaging carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

Since 2007, we have sequestered a total of 175,000 tons of carbon across the reforestation sites of BaumInvest. The carbon storage capacity of our forests is confirmed via a certification process according to the recognized Gold Standard, resulting in carbon credits that can be acquired on the voluntary market for carbon offsetting.

In addition, BaumInvest offers corporate customers the opportunity to invest in forest-climate protection projects for their own offsetting of unavoidable emissions, using Carbon Forest Units and Company Carbon Forests.

Our innovative planting concept “Carbon Forest” constitutes a strong basis for the development of a diverse and natural mixed forest. In addition to carbon sequestration, this approach contributes positively to the conservation and enhancement of existing biodiversity, to the reactivation of the life within soil, to water storage, and job creation.

One thing is certain: The demand for natural carbon offsetting solutions is increasing significantly due to the ambitious climate protection goals of most European companies. We already see great growth potential in this area.

Sustainable Forestry

This is how the BaumInvest Forestry model works

The fitting solution for the demand for sustainably produced tropical hardwoods

Our sustainably managed mixed forests in northern Costa Rica serve, among other things, the production of tropical hardwood. Our forestry concept “Sustainable Forestry” combines fast-growing pioneer tree species that provide shade, such as Cebo or Botarrama, with high-quality hardwood species such as Almendro, Pilon, or Guapinol. The harvesting is selective, and we continuously replant what we remove from our forest stands. Most hardwood species in Costa Rica take approximately 30-35 years to reach maturity for harvesting.

This approach creates perfect conditions for the growth of valuable timber trees while increasing biodiversity—a sustainable and economically viable system with a future.

The result: steadily growing valuable timber from permanent and sustainable forest management.
